Maxim has been a committed trade union official, serving as President of the Isle of Man National Association of Headteachers and, for a time, as Branch Secretary. During his tenure on the Isle of Man Executive Team, he successfully led members through an industrial dispute with Government and gained extensive experience in high-level pay negotiations. He also campaigned effectively on key educational issues, including the withdrawal of a proposed Education Bill and the call for cultural change across the Department of Education, Sport and Culture. In recent years, Maxim has stepped back from active union organising to concentrate fully on his school leadership, working constructively and in partnership with DESC to drive improvement across the system.
